Dance Training

Kate began her movement training at the age of 3 with a kindergym class, and quickly knew she loved and needed to move. At the age of 7 Kate started ballet classes a few times a week, and by the age of 10 she had become immersed in dance. Throughout grade school, middle and high school, Kate studied ballet 4 or 5 days a week, performing many times a year around the state of Iowa.

After high-school, Kate was able to study new forms of dance. She discovered a love for improvisation and modern dance - both of which provided a departure from the strict and repetitive form of ballet she was used to.

Kate was also introduced to a form of movement analysis called The Axis Syllabus, which brought her all over the world to study with its founder, Frey Faust. Kate studied with Frey in Santa Cruz, Italy, and the Czech Republic, and began a teacher training program with him.

In 2008, Kate was accepted as a Graduate Student in the Dance Department at The University of Iowa, where she was awareded the Iowa Arts Fellowship, as well as a teaching position. Kate instructed four undergraduate dance courses throghout her two-year program at Iowa, while choreographing more than 6 unique dance works, and performing for fellow graduate students and dance faculty members.

After graduating from Iowa, Kate accepted a position working in low-income public schools in San Francisco as an employee for a non-profit organization that taught meditation to students and teachers. There Kate ran a free community yoga class for students and staff after school. Kate was able to earn her 200-hour Yoga Teacher certification from Yoga Tree after a six-month intensive training course in San Francisco.

While in the bay area, Kate was able to study, perform, and teach dance to kids, teens, and adults at Roco Dance and Fitness in Marin County, where she currently instructs 12 dance classes every week. Kate discovered a love of teaching dance, and is very excited to continue her teaching in Fairfield, IA starting February 2014.
